He hadn't slept properly in days. The email confirmation had just arrived. A hard thump resounded in his chest. He read the words again, each syllable a blow to his solar plexus.

He tossed the phone onto the bed. The room felt stifling, the air thick with unspoken worries. The walls seemed to be closing in.

He stood and walked towards the window, the movement slow and deliberate. The city lights stretched out before him, a vast and glittering landscape. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in the strands. He wanted to scream, to lash out, to somehow shake this feeling loose.
